Delta Airlines has announced that beginning May 15, 2002, it will no longer accept golf clubs as checked luggage unless they are packed in an approved case. According to the new rules, golf clubs will only be accepted within a Club Glove case, within a hard shell case with no existing damage evident on the case, or within a Delta golf box ($10 charge per box). The rules also state that one item of golfing equipment is accepted as part of a customer's free baggage allowance. One item of golfing equipment is defined as one or up to all of a combination of the following: One golf bag containing not more than 14 golf clubs, 12 golf balls and/or one pair of golf shoes. (On a personal note, I flew Delta on May 16, and was told that other airlines will probably follow suit, although exactly when has not been determined.)
