Reprinted with permission from Golf Tournament Planning Pre-tournament activities and any major peripheral activities associated with your golf event should have separate committee chairpersons in leadership roles and they should be responsible for all necessary services for these special events. The duties should be coordinated with other committees and of course the tournament director. Make certain the communications are multi-directional for the best results. Here are six (6) important areas to cover which will allow your event run smoothly on tournament day: Tournament Day Support 1) Communications committee duties would include testing, monitoring and placement of two way radios. Communications on tournament day is vital. 2) Tournament Area Set Up includes signs, PA system, refreshment stands, scoreboard area and trash refuse areas. 3) Aid Stations duties include ice, cups, coolers, tables, sun block, chap stick, first aid supplies, rescue service plan, tables and chairs. Course ownership can be asked to provide some of these services but please review with them what is available upon signing any agreement. 4) Hole Set Up and Markings include pin placements, lines and circles on holes if you elect to offer side games, green side sponsor sign and contest markers. 5) Awards Ceremony Set Up includes PA system, seating arrangements, and stage. 6) Clean Up includes scheduled time and manpower. These are a few key areas you will need to consider for tournament day. Make them a part of your overall planning strategies at your next event.
