Louisville
Golf returns to the LPGA Tour
Lincoln,
CA - Maggie Will, a three-time winner on the LPGA Tour, will put in
play this weekend the Louisville Golf Stimp 10CB putter at the Long's
Drugs Challenge. It is the first Louisville Golf putter used on the
LPGA Tour since 1997 when Laura Davies used a Louisville Golf Earthwood.
The Louisville Golf Earthwood was a top ten putter on the LPGA Tour
that year.
Will,
who hails from North Carolina, has been a member of the LPGA Tour since
1989. Her victories include two sudden-death playoff wins in both the
Children's Medical Center Classic (1994) and the Sara Lee Classic (1992).
Her first win on the LPGA Tour came in 1990 at the Desert Inn LPGA International.
"We
are very excited to be returning to the LPGA Tour," said Mike Just,
Louisville Golf president. "And to have a player like Maggie Will
with our putter, is a real bonus. We wish her the best of luck this
weekend."
Will,
who's golf coach is PGA club professional Rick Schuller, has been struggling
with her putting since a shoulder injury limited her season in 1998
to 13 events. Schuller used a Louisville Golf Dogwood mallet putter
at the 2001 PGA Championship where he was the only club pro to make
the cut, finished 19th in putting for the week and finished with the
third lowest 72-hole total by a PGA Professional in the history of the
event.

"Rick
had a great week with our putter (at the PGA Championship). He turned
his student Maggie on to our putters when she came to him for instruction
and was struggling with her putting," said Josh Fischer, Vice President
of Marketing at Louisville Golf. "She really liked the way the
Stimp 10CB lined up and felt to her.
"Rick
was struggling with his putting before he turned to our putters, and
it helped him turn his performance on the greens around. We hope it
will do the same for Maggie."
The
Stimp 10CB by Louisville Golf is a center-shafted, Persimmon `polie'
mallet putter with a copper insert. The `polie' design refers to heal
and toe indentations on the back of the putter that creates a ridge
that helps as an alignment feature.
The
center-shafting reduces leverage around the shaft, thus lessening slicing
and pulling of putts. This feature also provides a linear alignment
to the hole, allowing the golfer to stroke the putt directly at the
target. The Stimp 10CB is the first center-shafted model offered in
Louisville Golf's popular Stimp Series Perisimmon putters.
"Maggie
really liked the way the Stimp 10CB lined up at address," said
Fischer. "She told us she really felt confident over the ball."
Schuller,
who affectionately calls his Louisville Golf putter "woody,"
encouraged his student to give her putter a name. Will chose the name
"Black Magic."
"We
hope our putter gives Maggie all the magic she needs this weekend,"
said Just. "She is really itching for another win, and we all know
how important putting is to a golfer. We'll really be rooting her on
this weekend."
The
Golf Channel will air the Longs Drugs Challenge this weekend from 12:30
to 3:30 EST Thursday and Friday and 4:30 to 7:30 EST Saturday and Sunday.
The total purse is $900,000. Se Ri Pak won the event last year getting
by Laura Diaz who finished second.
