Golf Carts: A story of a simple invention that transforms them

LISBURN, IRELAND--(July 16, 2002)--Fred Wilson was born in 1926, the fifth of 11 children of an Irish small farmer. His education stopped when he was 12 years old.

In 1965 he formed his own engineering company with capital of 3,000 Dollars and 5 employees. When his children joined him the company continuously grew and prospered.

In 1995 when annual turnover had reached 250 million dollars and with 1300 employees the family sold the company to a large US Corporation.

Today Caterpillar still based at Larne, Northern Ireland with 2500 employees is one of Irelands largest manufacturing engineering companies.

In 1998 he decided to retire and bought a new golf cart.

Golf Carts leave the factory totally open with the option of a roof and windscreen. Irish weather can be very wet, windy and cold, so a weatherproof enclosure was ordered. It was made of vinyl and zips and roll up flaps for doors. It detracted from the quality and appearance of the Club Car Golf Cart.

He perused the Internet and found nothing better.

He began thinking and came up with some sketches of a rigid enclosure with aluminium framed transparent panels and a large sliding door at each side.

Back to work again. A manufacturing plant was set up with computer controlled machines and production started.

The MEE Enclosure makes a golf cart as comfortable as a car. IT CAN BE SEEN ON THE GOLF CHANNEL OVER JULY.

The enclosure was Granted US Patent No. US 6,276,745

It is engineered to fit the products of the major golf cart manufacturers, new and used, without alteration to the cart.

It will be available from Golf Cart Dealers but presently is being sent weekly to buyers throughout USA by airfreight.

There seems to be a need in some Hot States for an air-conditioned golf cart and it is not available in the market place. MEE has a very energy efficient air conditioning kit with the MEE enclosure on test and it will be available on the market in about 2 months. There is no modification to existing golf carts.
