LOUISVILLE -
With Louisville Golf's new offering, the SMART F2 Fairway Finder,
the 27-year old company hopes to inspire a new sensibility in golf.
"With most
every other golf company aggressively marketing drivers that promise
more distance, golfers have lost site of one thing - do you really
know where your ball is going?" said Josh Fischer, Louisville
Golf's Vice President of Marketing. "We designed the SMART F2
to be a club that could answer that question positively.
"I'd be
willing to bet that a golfer who hits every fairway could beat a golfer
who hits one or two big drives around. Accuracy needs to be affirmed,
it is the surest way for a golfer to improve their play and enjoyment
of the game."
The SMART F2
Fairway Finder is a driver manufactured of Persimmon and incorporates
several design features that make it one of the most accurate clubs
Louisville Golf has every produced. Louisville Golf has manufactured
wood golf clubs for nearly three decades. In 1996, Louisville Golf
founder Elmore Just designed the SMART Persimmon Driver to usher in
a Persimmon Revival.
At 12.5 degrees
of loft, the SMART F2 is designed to minimize sidespin. When a ball
is in flight after being struck, it spins, but it cannot spin in two
opposing directions. Backspin will circumvent sidespin if given the
proper velocity. For most golfers, a higher loft is needed to generate
more backspin than sidespin. This is why golfers are always more accurate
with a 3-wood rather than a driver - the added loft allows sidespin
to be overtaken by backspin thus lessening its variance to the target.
"The lower
the loft of your driver, the harder it is to keep your ball traveling
at your target," said Mike Just, Louisville Golf President and
chief designer of the SMART F2. "Knowing this, and given the
fact that a lot of golfers were looking to Louisville Golf because
they had trouble keeping their low lofted, metal drivers in play,
we designed this club to fill a need. Most golfers can't control a
low lofted driver with a 45 inch shaft."
For swing speeds
consistent with the fitting of a Regular Flex Shaft, the added loft
of the SMART F2 will actually maximize the average golfer's distance,
allowing the golfer to obtain their optimum launch angle. Unless a
golfer is achieving his or her optimized ball trajectory off the tee,
then the golfer is losing yards.
"The average
golfer WILL NOT lose distance with the SMART F2 due to its higher
loft," said Fischer. "In fact the average golfer will be
surprised when they gain a few yards."
The SMART F2
was designed to give the average golfer more confidence, and the better
golfer a scoring advantage, off the tee. With its natural attributes
of accuracy and feel, the SMART F2 will have the lower handicapped
golfer playing from the fairway more often. This is in part due to
Persimmon's natural Gear Effect, which is maximized by the Brass Rudder.
The Brass Rudder,
fitted on the back sole of the SMART F2, adds weight to a key area
of the club. Adding weight near the bottom of the sole lowers the
center of gravity while placing it toward the back of a Persimmon
golf head increases wood's natural Gear Effect. Gear Effect, in short,
produces corrective spin on mis-hits, allowing for a ball off target
to move back toward the target line.. Metal possesses little to no
Gear Effect, thus giving a Persimmon club a material advantage when
it comes to accuracy.
The SMART F2
Fairway Finder will be offered in two stains, Acid Navy and Mahogany
with a Premium Maple backing. It will be offered in a right hand and
left handed model. Suggested Retail price is $269 in steel shaft,
$299 in a graphite shaft.
The SMART F2
will be released at the 2003 PGA Merchandise Show next week in Orlando,
Florida, and will be ready for distribution Feb. 1, 2003. The new
