Golf Event Managers Association Newly Formed

Ponte Vedra Beach, FL February 13, 2003 -The Golf Event Managers Association (GEMA), will offer educational services, tournament management instruction, and golf industry supplier opportunities among other initiatives to golf event managers, meeting planners, business executives, charities, foundations, civic groups, tournament officials and other related audiences. In this way, GEMA will expand beyond focusing on the traditional tournament director segment of the golf industry.

GEMA, was founded by two experienced golf administration professionals: Whitney McClelland, the founder of GolfGuide, Inc. and the publisher of numerous individual golf course guides as well as The Viewers Guide to the PGA TOUR is spearheading the new Association along with Barry J. Palm, formerly the Executive Director of the event sponsors association for the PGA TOUR - The PGA TOUR Tournaments Association - and the assistant Executive Director of the Arizona State Golf Association. Palm will develop membership strategies and organize Association meetings.

"After researching and assessing the number of golf events held in the U.S. annually, we determined that there is a decided need for an organization to address the logistical and administrative issues facing event managers who use golf as a business or fund-raising vehicle," said Mr. McClelland. "The increasing popularity of golf events warrants an association like GEMA that can assist groups and individuals with capitalizing and using the game of golf in a cost-efficient and competent way. With nearly one million events held this past year, GEMA will have positive impact."

McClelland stressed GEMA is not in the business of competing with professional tournament organizers or PGA professionals. Rather, the Association plans to be a resource for those people that desire to garner a better understanding of how to conduct successful golf events.

The Association is scheduling regional symposiums for Orlando in June and Denver in August in 2003, and a national conference in Las Vegas next October in conjunction with the Country Club Show held by Club Executive Magazine.

GEMA is managed by GolfGuide, Inc. and is based in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. For more information, contact Whitney McClelland or Barry J. Palm, Membership Services Director, at 888-624-3688.
